Kirkwood, MO Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 10-27 governs how Kirkwood's weekly curbside cart service works. Carts must be placed "within three feet of the curb or edge of the public street pavement in front of the property and adjacent to the driveway or entranceway," with the lid opening facing the street and "at least three feet of clearance on each side of the cart" so the automated truck arm can lift them. Carts cannot go to the curb before dusk the evening before the scheduled pickup day, and must come back off the street before the end of the collection day, after which they are to be stored behind the actual front building line of the residence.

All recyclables, garbage and rubbish must be inside the carts with lids closed; loose items and cardboard boxes set outside the cart will not be collected under § 10-27(6). The carts themselves remain City property under § 10-32, and residents are responsible for keeping them in good and sanitary condition at all times; damage from abuse, misuse or neglect triggers a repair or replacement fee assessed by the Public Services Director. Collection runs once per week on both the basic curbside and rear-yard routes, with no pickups on Sundays or legal holidays under § 10-31.
