Kirkwood, MO Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Kirkwood Code of Ordinances § 10-26 requires all owners of residential properties within the city, except multifamily units, to subscribe, or have their tenants, agents, renters, or other responsible party subscribe, to the Sanitation Department's service for collecting garbage, rubbish, and recyclables. This applies irrespective of how much waste the household actually generates, and failure to pay entitles the City to pursue prosecution and to add interest and costs. Section 10-31 sets the schedule: the City provides rear yard pickup service once per week and curbside pickup once per week, with no collections on Sundays or legal holidays, and the Director of Public Services can suspend collection when weather or other unusual conditions make it hazardous or impracticable.

Billing runs monthly under § 10-29; an account more than three months in arrears must go on a payment plan approved by the Director of Finance, and failing to pay without such a plan is treated as intentionally stealing City services, which can be prosecuted. A resident whose property sits vacant for 60 days or more may apply to suspend service, and no fee is charged during that suspension, under § 10-27's temporary vacating provision.
