North Miami requires waste containers to be placed at the curb or swale by 7:00 AM on collection day and retrieved within 12 hours after collection. Containers must not obstruct sidewalks or block the right-of-way. Storage between collection days must be behind the front building line, out of public view.
Under the North Miami Code of Ordinances, residential waste containers must be placed at the curb or swale edge by 7:00 AM on the scheduled collection day. Containers should not block sidewalks, driveways, or the public right-of-way. After collection, containers must be retrieved and returned to storage within 12 hours. Between collection days, all waste containers must be stored behind the front building line and screened from public view where possible. Rolling carts should be positioned with the handle facing the residence and the opening facing the street for automated collection. Containers must be spaced at least 3 feet apart and 3 feet from any obstruction including mailboxes, vehicles, and utility poles. Yard waste should be bundled or placed in containers separate from household garbage. Contact Public Works at (305) 895-9830 for container issues or Code Enforcement at (305) 895-9825 for placement violations.
Leaving containers at the curb beyond 12 hours after collection is a code violation. Containers stored in front yards visible from the street between collection days result in code enforcement notices. Blocking sidewalks or the right-of-way with waste containers may result in citations. Repeat violations face escalating fines.
