Coral Gables enforces strict container placement rules. Garbage cans must be stored on the side of the home, out of sight from the street. Cans cannot be placed in the swale, driveway, or front yard. Yard debris goes in the swale/trash pit; household items only after 6:00 PM the night before collection.
Under the Coral Gables Code of Ordinances, garbage cans must be positioned on the home's side and kept out of sight from the street at all times. Placing cans in the swale, driveway, or front yard violates city code. The city collects garbage from the backyard β residents do not need to bring cans to the curb. For curbside trash collection (yard debris and household items), yard debris may be placed in the swale/trash pit at any time before the scheduled collection day. However, household items and plastic bags with organic matter can only be placed out after 6:00 PM the evening before collection. Recycling bins should be placed out the night before collection day only and returned to storage promptly after pickup. The Coral Gables aesthetic code is strictly enforced β visible waste containers are treated as a code violation in this historic community. Contact Solid Waste at (305) 460-5346 or Code Enforcement at (305) 460-5216.
Garbage cans visible from the street, placed in the swale, driveway, or front yard are immediate code violations. Placing household items out before 6:00 PM the night before collection results in citations. Leaving recycling bins out after collection is a violation. Fines escalate with repeat offenses. Code Enforcement actively patrols for visible container violations.
