Redmond carts must sit at the curb with wheels against the curb, lids facing the street, and 3 feet of clearance on all sides. Carts may not block sidewalks, hydrants, or traffic lanes per RMC 9.04.
Proper container placement is required for safe and efficient collection. Under Recology service standards and RMC 9.04, carts must be placed at the edge of the driveway or curb with wheels positioned against the curb and the lid opening facing the street to allow the automated truck arm to pick up the cart. Each cart requires at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides, measured from other carts, parked vehicles, mailboxes, utility poles, fences, and overhead obstructions. Do not block sidewalks, fire hydrants, driveways, or pedestrian pathways. Containers may not be placed in the public travel lane of the street. Overhead wires, tree branches, or carport roofs below 14 feet may prevent collection by the truck arm. Do not overfill the cart; lids must close completely to prevent litter and wildlife attraction. Shared containers in multifamily properties must be accessible to the collection truck via paved pathways. Customers in alley-served properties place carts adjacent to the alley collection point.
Improper placement resulting in missed collection: customer responsibility. Blocking sidewalks, hydrants, or travel lanes: civil infraction up to $100 under RMC 10.04 traffic code.
