St. Petersburg requires trash and recycling carts to be placed at the curb or alley after 7 p.m. the night before collection and removed by 7 p.m. on collection day under Chapter 27 Article V.
Sec. 27-497 and related sections of Chapter 27 Article V govern container placement for residential collection. Carts must be placed with the wheels facing the home and the lid opening toward the street so collection trucks can grip them. Curbside placement is allowed only after 7 p.m. the day before collection and carts must be returned to the side or rear of the residence by 7 p.m. on collection day. Carts may not block sidewalks, fire hydrants, mailboxes, or driveways used by neighbors. For alley-served addresses, shared 300-gallon containers stay in the alley but residents may not overload them with household goods, hazardous waste, or yard debris that should be set out separately.
Leaving carts at the curb beyond 7 p.m., blocking sidewalks or hydrants, or using containers improperly can trigger code enforcement notices, warning letters, and daily fines under Chapter 27.
