Cart placement standards are set by the franchise hauler in compliance with Washington County Solid Waste rules and OSHA ergonomic requirements for automated side-loader trucks. Carts must be positioned on the curb or alley with wheels toward the house and handle facing the street, spaced at least 3 feet from other carts, parked cars, mailboxes, fire hydrants, and utility poles to allow the truck's mechanical arm clearance. Carts must be set out by 6 AM on service day. Lids must close flat — overflow cannot be bagged and stacked on the lid. Carts must be retrieved from the curb within 24 hours of collection and stored out of public view between collections per Beaverton BC 9.05, Hillsboro HMC 8.20, Tigard TMC 11.04, Tualatin TMC 6-2, Sherwood Municipal Code 9.10, and Washington County property maintenance provisions.
