Chesapeake offers scheduled bulk and brush collection for residents on designated weeks. Acceptable bulk items include furniture, appliances, and large household goods. Construction debris, tires, and hazardous materials are excluded and must be taken to the Chesapeake Landfill or household hazardous waste events.
Bulk trash pickup is coordinated through the Chesapeake Waste Management Division. Residents request bulk collection by calling 757-382-CITY or using the city website; items must be placed at the curb by 7 AM on the scheduled day, and no more than one cubic yard per collection in most cases. White goods (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners) containing refrigerant require CFC removal and are tagged for separate collection. Yard waste and brush are collected in season; branches must be cut to lengths of 4 feet or less and bundled. The Chesapeake Landfill at 901 Hollowell Lane accepts residential loads with proof of Chesapeake residency; fees apply to commercial loads and construction debris. Household hazardous waste (paint, solvents, pesticides, batteries, electronics) is not accepted at the curb but can be brought to scheduled SPSA collection events.
Placing construction debris at curb as bulk: refusal of collection and Code Compliance notice. Unauthorized dumping: criminal charges under VA Code Section 33.2-802.
