Roanoke County, VA Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

The county runs two separate every-other-week programs under Sec. 20-25: brush collection in subsection (a) and bulk-item collection in subsection (e); neither is available to commercial customers. Brush from normal property maintenance cannot exceed six feet in length or twelve inches in diameter, and cuttings, limbs and stumps must be piled no larger than six feet by six feet by six feet; stumps must be under a foot wide, clean of dirt, and placed manually at the curb. Brush from commercial tree-trimming or land-clearing operations is refused outright.

Bulk items must fit within a pickup-truck-size load and include things like appliances, furniture, up to four unmounted tires, four pallets, bicycles, disassembled swing sets, lawn furniture and moving boxes; construction and demolition debris counts too, but only if each piece is under three feet long and thirty pounds, and concrete and roofing shingles are never collected. Both brush and bulk items must sit as close to the curb as possible, at minimum within five feet, and five feet clear of any obstruction; bulk items also need to be clear of overhanging wires and branches.
