Sioux Falls does not run a citywide bulk-pickup amnesty program. Large items (furniture, appliances, mattresses, exercise equipment) must be either (a) scheduled directly with your licensed hauler for an extra fee, or (b) self-hauled to the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill at 100 N. Lyon Blvd. The landfill accepts municipal solid waste, sludges, construction and demolition debris, and appliances at posted per-ton rates. Refrigerant-bearing appliances (fridges, freezers, AC units) require freon removal and carry a separate fee. Household hazardous waste, large electronics, and hand-held electronics go to the dedicated HHW Facility at 1015 E. Chambers St.
Chapter 57 Β§57.047 (Rates for Use) sets landfill tipping fees, and Β§57.049 establishes the drop-off site for household hazardous waste, large electronics, and hand-held electronics. Hand-held electronics are free for up to ten units; over ten units is charged at $1 per pound with a $20 minimum. Tires, refrigerant appliances, and certain bulk items carry surcharges. There is no city-funded curbside bulk amnesty week. Private junk-removal services (LoadUp, College Hunks, Two Men and a Junk Truck) operate as licensed C&D or commercial haulers. Apartment and multifamily properties handle bulk via their property-management dumpster/bulk contracts with the hauler.
Setting bulk items at the curb between scheduled collections, or in a dumpster you don't have rights to, may be cited as illegal dumping under Β§57.002. Refusing to pay landfill tip fees, or attempting to drop banned materials (yard waste, recyclables, HHW) at the main landfill, may result in load refusal and inspection charges under Chapter 57.
