Full Breakdown
City code makes recycling service mandatory, not optional. Every dwelling unit and occupied building must have a licensed commercial garbage hauler collect required recyclables at least twice each month, and garbage at least once a week. Landlords renting residential units must subscribe to and pay for both garbage and recycling service (tenants can take over the duty only if a written lease for a single-family home or duplex says so). Every premises also needs a dedicated, plainly marked recycling container built to single-stream specs, kept separate from the garbage container, and recyclables can't be dumped at the sanitary landfill.
Violations & Fines
No specific penalty is set for Chapter 57 violations, so the citywide general penalty applies: up to a $500 fine and/or up to 30 days in county jail, with each day of noncompliance a separate offense.
