The City of Sioux Falls Public Works Department operates the leaf and branch drop-off sites on a seasonal schedule. The 2026 spring window ran April 11 – May 24 at both 100 N. Lyon Blvd (west side, accessible from W. 12th St or W. Madison St) and 1015 E. Chambers St (east side). Fall windows open after the first hard frost. Acceptable material is leaves and small branches/brush; sod, stumps, treated lumber, and animal waste are NOT accepted at these sites. Residents with larger volumes or off-season needs can subscribe to a hauler's yard-waste cart (separate from garbage and recycling) — Novak, A-OK, and other licensed haulers offer this. The Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill accepts yard waste only in a designated compost-area cell at posted rates; depositing yard waste in the general MSW area is prohibited and triggers cleanup charges under Chapter 57.
Depositing unauthorized materials (sod, stumps, treated lumber, plastic bags of yard waste left out of bins) at drop sites is a §57.002 violation. Dumping yard waste in alleys, ditches, parks, or vacant lots is illegal dumping. Mis-sorted yard waste at the landfill triggers cleanup-cost charges and load refusal.
