Full Breakdown
Sioux Falls runs solid waste through licensed commercial haulers, not a city crew. City Code § 57.020 requires every dwelling unit and occupied building to carry garbage service that picks up trash at least once a week and required recyclables at least twice a month. Renters and landlords split the duty: for rental units generally the owner or manager must subscribe to and pay for garbage and recycling service, though single-family and duplex leases can shift that job to the tenant in writing. Containers can only go curbside starting noon the day before the scheduled pickup and must come back in within two hours of collection or by 11 p.m. that day, whichever is later (§ 57.023).
Violations & Fines
No set fine is printed in this chapter; enforcement runs through the city's general nuisance/code-violation process, and the city can remove uncollected litter itself after 14 days' notice and bill the property owner for the cost (§ 57.006).
