Wellington, FL Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Wellington's property maintenance chapter, Code of Ordinances Section 13-3, governs how solid waste sits at the curb between collection days. Under Section 13-3(B)(2), garbage cans, trash containers and recycling containers cannot go to the curb before 6:00 p.m. on the day before the scheduled pickup and must come back in by 11:00 p.m. on pickup day itself. Vegetative waste and bulk trash get a longer window: Section 13-3(B)(4) lets residents set those items out no earlier than 24 hours before the scheduled pickup, recognizing that yard debris and large discarded items take longer to stage than a garbage can.

Section 13-3(B)(5) then locks down where everything goes: garbage, vegetation, recycling containers, vegetative waste and bulk trash can only be placed for collection within the boundaries of the property that generated it, directly in front of that property, and never on the roadway surface or in the right-of-way in a way that blocks pedestrian or vehicle traffic. A resident who sets a couch or a pile of palm fronds at a neighbor's curb, or leaves bulk trash out for days before the truck comes, is out of compliance with both the timing and placement rules.

Section 13-2 requires the property owner, tenant or other responsible party to keep the yard itself free of accumulated litter and debris between pickups, so staging materials illegally can also trigger a separate property-maintenance finding. The Village enforces both sections through its special magistrate code compliance process or, for right-of-way obstructions, through a direct Code Compliance Officer citation.
