Wellington, FL Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Code Section 13-3(B)(1) requires all solid waste to be stored in garbage cans or dumpsters kept in a sanitary condition. Except during the curbside window, garbage cans and recycling containers must stay indoors or in a portion of the rear or side yard screened from a public right-of-way by walls, fences, or hedges, and any dumpster on the property must likewise be screened and placed in a location Wellington has approved. Section 13-3(B)(2) sets the curbside window itself: containers can go out no earlier than 6:00 p.m. on the day before the scheduled pickup and must come back off the curb no later than 11:00 p.m. on the day of pickup.

Section 13-3(B)(5) adds that garbage, recycling, and other waste can only be placed at the curb within the boundaries of the property that generated it, directly in front of that property, and never on the roadway surface or in a way that blocks pedestrian or vehicle traffic. Section 13-2(B)(6) separately requires that dumpsters and trash receptacles used on a property, and the ground around them, stay free of litter, debris, stains, mold, discoloration, and deterioration at all times, not just during pickup. During a hurricane or tropical storm watch or warning, Section 13-3(D) suspends the normal placement window: containers cannot be left at the curb on a non-collection day, and once Wellington's contractor halts collection ahead of the storm, the property owner becomes responsible for securing the containers.
