Berwyn, IL Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 1060.04 of the Berwyn Code of Ordinances splits collection duty by property type. A noncommercial residence, defined in § 1060.01 as a single-family residence or a multi-family residence of four or fewer units, gets its garbage, refuse, landscape waste and recyclable materials collected only by the city, or by a private collector or disposal contractor the city designates as sole authorized refuse hauler. Commercial residential property, meaning five or more units, and commercial establishments must handle their own removal through their owners and occupants, at least once each week or additional times as necessary to maintain clean and sanitary conditions.

For noncommercial residences the service is weekly. Section 1060.05(B) says the basic charge entitles each family or occupant to weekly collection of all household waste, all landscape or yard waste and shrub trimmings, and all recyclable materials, and §§ 1060.09(B) and 1060.10(B) require recyclables and landscape waste to be picked up on the same day as refuse. The chapter prints no day of the week. Billing is quarterly under § 1060.05(C)(1), on a per-unit charge set by Council under the contractor agreement, and the owner is responsible for payment.

A 10% penalty is added to bills not paid within the allowable time, and § 1060.12(B) treats charges as delinquent 30 days after the last date of service billed. Nonpayment can end service and let the Director of Public Works remove waste and lien the property. Division (E) of § 1060.04 bans burning garbage or debris except as provided in the Fire Prevention Code, Chapter 1610.
