Kershaw County, SC Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Kershaw County Code § 28-131 splits the entire unincorporated area into eight service areas, mapped and approved by the county council, with the maps made part of each collector's contract and open for public inspection. Household garbage, yard rubbish and other household articles are collected under those contracts, and any single-family or duplex residential household within a franchise area has the right and option to subscribe to the assigned collector's service by paying the fee set out in the county council-approved contract. Franchise areas are composed of these service areas, and contracts are awarded only after the county's competitive-bid procurement process.

Section 28-132 then requires the winning collector's written contract to spell out the schedule: once-a-week household garbage pickup, seasonal weekly yard trash collection, and biweekly recyclables collection, plus a negotiated fee for bulky items. Apartment complexes and commercial or industrial customers are outside this franchise structure under section 28-124. The county's director of environmental services administers and enforces the article, and disputes go through the staff's complaint register under section 28-134.
