Kershaw County, SC Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Kershaw County Code § 28-132(b)(2) requires every county-awarded franchise contract to provide weekly collection of yard trash between April and November, with the specific terms and conditions set out in that contract rather than fixed uniformly in the ordinance itself. Outside that April-to-November window, the weekly guarantee does not apply. Section 28-133 then puts the placement duty on the customer: yard debris is picked up at curbside only, and customers must place plastic bags or covered cans of yard trash on their property next to the curb but out of the traveling surface of the roadway.

The county's definition of yard rubbish, drawn from section 28-126, covers grass, leaves, small trees and branches not exceeding four inches in diameter, shrubs, vines and similar lawn, shrub, garden and tree maintenance waste generated on residential properties; branches larger than four inches fall instead under the bulky-item pickup in section 28-132(b)(4), which requires a separately negotiated fee. The director of environmental services administers this article, and missed yard trash pickups are logged and followed up through the staff complaint register in section 28-134.
