Piscataway, NJ Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 10-10.4, adding to the Township's adopted 1959 Solid Waste Code, sets the day-to-day collection rules. Under Section 3.7 of that code, an owner, tenant, or occupant of any premises must arrange pickup at least twice a week through a licensed garbage collector; Section 6.8 limits collection hours to between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., though the Director of the Department of Public Works can permit nonresidential collection to start as early as 5:00 a.m. for up to a year at a time, renewable annually.

Every collection truck must conspicuously display its Township-issued vehicle permit at all times under the same addition. Section 6.9 makes it unlawful for anyone to gather, collect, or remove garbage from a dwelling, store, or other building, or to use Township streets to transport it, without first obtaining a refuse collection license and vehicle permit from the Licensing Authority; Section 6.10 separately bars an owner, occupant, or lessee from using Township streets to haul their own garbage. An exception in Section 6.13 excludes anyone under contract with the Township to collect its garbage, and excludes carting manure for farm or garden use.

Because unlawful solid waste disposal is treated as its own category of Code violation, § 1-5.1b lets the Township impose a minimum fine up to $2,500 and a maximum fine up to $10,000, well above the Code's general $2,000 cap for an ordinary violation.
