Piscataway, NJ Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

The Department of Public Works issues one recycling decal and a booklet of coupons to every household under § 22-1.1, and § 22-1.2 spells out how they work. To drop off solid waste at the Township Trash/Recycling Center next to the Public Works yard, a resident must surrender one coupon for a car, SUV or minivan, or two coupons for a pickup truck or full-size van; there is no coupon-free entry. Curb-side pickup is separate and capped: the Township authorizes each household to just two curb-side pickups of solid waste per year, arranged by appointment, and that authorization covers solid waste only, not recyclables.

Appointment requests run from January through the middle of October and are filled first come, first served, so a household that waits until November has missed its window for the year. Only Piscataway Township residents may use either the Trash/Recycling Center or curb-side service; § 22-1.4 bars nonresidents outright. For anyone hauling with a van, pickup truck or trailer, § 22-1.5 caps the gross load at two cubic yards regardless of vehicle size. Grass clippings run on their own coupon track under § 22-1.6: a biodegradable bag (about 40 pounds) costs one Grass Coupon, a 30-gallon can (about 80 pounds) costs two, and a 60-gallon landscaper's can (about 160 pounds) costs four, with each coupon priced at $1.

Recyclable materials get more generous treatment: § 22-1.3 lets any resident bring recyclables to the Center at unlimited frequency during posted operating hours and days, using only the vehicle decal and no coupon at all. Plastic and grocery bags, hazardous materials and kitchen garbage are all barred from the recycling bins.
