Piscataway, NJ Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 32-2.2 defines 'yard waste' narrowly, as leaves and grass clippings, and defines 'containerized' waste as material placed in a trash can, bucket, bag or other vessel that keeps it from spilling into the street or contacting stormwater. Section 32-2.3 permits sweeping, raking or blowing loose, non-containerized yard waste to the curb or street only during the seven days immediately before a scheduled and announced collection, and that pile must stay at least 10 feet from any storm drain inlet to keep leaves and clippings out of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System.

Placing yard waste at the curb outside that seven-day window, or in any other manner, is itself a violation, and the responsible party must remove the waste from the street or remain in violation. Section 32-2.4 assigns enforcement to the Police Department and other municipal officials. The rule sits inside Article I of Chapter 32, Stormwater Management and Control, alongside a parallel ban in Section 32-1.3 on spilling or dumping any non-stormwater material, including yard debris, directly into the MS4 storm sewer system, which the Township enforces with a $400 fine of its own under Section 32-1.6. Residents who bag grass clippings instead may bring them to the Township mini-dump under Section 22-1.6 using purchased Grass Coupons rather than curbside placement.
