Santee, CA Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Santee runs solid waste collection under an exclusive franchise system created by Chapter 9.02 of the Santee Municipal Code. Under § 9.02.305(B), the franchised collector must service each residential premises 'not less than once every seven days or as approved by the Director,' and residential pickups are restricted to the window between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday; the City Council can change those hours and days. The same chapter's § 9.02.210 backs up the weekly cycle from the property side: excepting service disruptions, solid waste cannot sit on any residential or commercial premises for more than seven days, and the Director can require more frequent removal where necessary.

No hauler other than the City's franchisee or a permitted collector may legally provide residential collection service at all; § 9.02.300 makes it unlawful to contract for or provide collection service in Santee without holding a City franchise. If a resident needs collection outside the normal schedule, § 9.02.305(B)(4) lets them request special collection at times and rates agreed with the collector, with the Director setting the terms if no agreement is reached. Development Services administers the franchise; violations of Chapter 9.02, including a hauler's failure to keep the seven-day cycle, are declared a public nuisance and misdemeanor under § 9.02.130 and can also draw administrative citations and fines starting at $50 to $100 for a first offense.
