Santee, CA Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Section 9.02.230(C) of the Santee Municipal Code governs what single-family households may set out for pickup. Residents must place source-separated solid waste, recyclables, and organic waste in individual containers of 96 gallons or less, sized and numbered so nothing overflows before the next collection. Beyond the cart, subsection (C)(2) lets residents put out extra material only if the collector's own rules permit it, and only as securely tied bundles that weigh no more than 40 pounds, run no longer than three feet, and measure no more than 24 inches in diameter; anything bigger or heavier is not a lawful curbside set-out under Santee's code.

The chapter's general storage rule in § 9.02.230(A) backs this up: waste must be stored so it does not create a fire, health, or safety hazard, or attract flies, rodents, or vermin, while property owners and tenants under § 9.02.230(B) must keep containers clean, free of graffiti within 72 hours of a City notice, and never loaded heavier than the collector specifies. Commercial and multifamily accounts follow a parallel set of container rules under § 9.02.230(D), including size ranges from 1.5 to 6 cubic yards or larger roll-off bins for bigger generators.

Illegally dumping material outside a container, or tampering with someone else's container or its contents, is also unlawful disposal under § 9.02.200 and illicit scavenging under § 9.02.260, both separately enforceable by Development Services.
