Vermilion Parish, LA Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 32-27 is the source of the Police Jury's power over garbage pickup. During the existence of the current solid waste tax, and while the Police Jury is designated as the public body charged with collecting waste, the Police Jury is the legal entity exercising authority over collection in the unincorporated areas of the parish. It designates three things: the times of collection, the manner of collection, and the requirements for trash containers. The code prints no fixed weekday or route schedule, so residents get their pickup day from the Police Jury.

Article II applies to the unincorporated areas of the parish under § 32-25, so incorporated towns such as Abbeville and Kaplan run their own service. Section 32-26 defines a trash container as the mechanically-collected container distributed by the parish police jury, and defines the Vermilion Parish Police Jury to include any department assigned solid waste matters or any third party retained under contract to collect it. Section 32-28 makes the Police Jury's rules on collecting all refuse binding and enforceable as part of the article.

Costs and limits follow. Section 32-31 says fees for special items or additional services outside the standard collection under the current taxing structure are paid by the person, business or entity that incurs them. Section 32-29 puts each household in care, custody and control of its container and responsible for damages, claims or losses tied to placing or retrieving it. Section 32-1 keeps the parish's roadside solid waste containers for household garbage only and bars anyone who is not a resident of the parish from using any part of the solid waste program. Section 32-41 sends appliances through the normal trash pickup.
