St. Peters, MO Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

Section 405.395 of the St. Peters Zoning and Subdivision Regulations requires trash containers to be enclosed and screened according to the requirements of each zoning district, while recycling containers need no screening unless a site development plan calls for it. A trash enclosure is mandatory at every non-residential and multiple-family development unless the Planning Commission waives it; where required, the Section sets specific construction standards. Every exterior waste container must sit on a paved surface, and if a floor drain serves the container, the surrounding pad cannot extend more than three feet beyond the dumpster on any side, must slope toward that drain, and must route drainage to the sanitary sewer through the grease interceptor structure, with any overflow drainage directed to the storm sewer instead.

Reinforced concrete approaches in front of the enclosure's access doors must run at least twenty feet long and be at least as wide as the screened area itself, to support service trucks. Unless a specific zoning district says otherwise, the screening material must be masonry or vinyl fencing, and every enclosure door must be vinyl. Section 405.395 also requires the whole enclosure to be designed and built to City specifications directed by the Department of Health and Environmental Services, tying the zoning standard to that department's sign-off before a project can proceed to occupancy.
