Jacksonville, FL Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

The City of Jacksonville's Solid Waste page, headed "Holiday Solid Waste Service Schedule," prints one standing rule and two dated changes for the 2026 holiday season. The standing rule is that City office closures do not impact residential waste collection, and that waste collection schedules change only on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, regardless of how many days City offices are closed for the holiday. For all other holidays, waste is collected on your regularly scheduled day starting 6:00 a.m.

Thanksgiving Day is Thursday, November 26, 2026. The page says customers with a Thursday pickup will be serviced on Saturday, November 28, 2026. For Christmas, the page heads the date "Christmas Day – Friday, December 25, 2026" and says customers with a Friday pickup will be serviced on Saturday, December 26, 2026.

Routes that do not fall on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day stay put: even when City offices are closed for multiple days, the page says, all other routes run as normal. The page does not name Veterans Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, and it prints no 2027 date. New Year's Day, Friday, January 1, 2027, therefore has no dated entry, and the only holiday rule the page gives for it is the regular-day rule above.

The Jacksonville Ordinance Code backs the principle but supplies no calendar. Sec. 382.405(b) provides that "Collections shall not be reduced by holidays," while collections normally scheduled on a holiday can be rescheduled upon approval by the Director of Solid Waste and Resource Management, with notice to the affected residential premises by publication of notice in a newspaper of daily circulation in the City as required by the Director. The same subsection bars the contractor from observing any holiday different from those observed by the Department. Sec. 382.405(a) sets the baseline: garbage and rubbish, trash other than yard trash, and yard trash each at least once a week from the curbside of each residential premises. Sec. 382.405 names no holidays and no make-up day, so the dates above come only from the City's page.

The page speaks of residential waste collection and customers. It names no hauler zone or service area and says "waste" without separating garbage, recycling and yard trash. Residents use the Waste Wizard to look up a collection day, print a calendar and sign up for service alerts.
