Full Breakdown
The City of Jonesboro Sanitation Department publishes a 14-page calendar PDF titled the 2026 Trash Collection Schedule. Each day is marked NORMAL or carries a holiday notice. The Code of Ordinances does not set a holiday calendar. Section 54-1(c) says rules and regulations imposed by the sanitation superintendent that are consistent with and supplementary to Chapter 54 become a part of the chapter, and Section 54-32(a) directs the city to develop policies to facilitate the orderly collection of solid waste and recyclables. The calendar is where those policies show up for holidays.
Thanksgiving week: the Thursday and Friday cells (Nov 26 and Nov 27, 2026) both read CLOSED FOR THANKSGIVING. The following Monday, Nov 30, is marked THURSDAY ROUTE. Then Tuesday, Dec 1 runs the FRIDAY ROUTE, Wednesday, Dec 2 runs MONDAY & TUESDAY ROUTES, Thursday, Dec 3 runs WEDNESDAY ROUTES, Friday, Dec 4 runs THURSDAY ROUTES, and Saturday, Dec 5 runs FRIDAY ROUTES.
Christmas: Thursday, Dec 24 reads CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS EVE and Friday, Dec 25 reads CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS. Monday, Dec 28 is THURSDAY ROUTES, Tuesday, Dec 29 is FRIDAY ROUTES, Wednesday, Dec 30 is MONDAY & TUESDAY ROUTES, and Thursday, Dec 31 is FINISH TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY ROUTES.
New Year's: Friday, Jan 1, 2027 reads CLOSED NEW YEARS DAY on the January 2027 page. Monday, Jan 4 is THURSDAY ROUTES and Tuesday, Jan 5 is FRIDAY ROUTES, with Monday and Tuesday routes finishing the following days.
The same calendar closes collection for Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veteran's Day, and shifts the affected routes the same way. The Sanitation page adds that crews run routes Monday through Friday and that the department adjusts the schedule for a holiday or for bad weather that keeps trucks off the road. For weather changes, the page points residents to the City's Facebook page, City of Jonesboro Arkansas Official Page. Questions go to Sanitation at 870-932-7520.
Violations & Fines
The holiday calendar carries no penalty of its own. Container rules still apply: Section 54-32(c) says containers should not be placed out before 6:00 p.m. the day before the normal collection day and should be removed within 24 hours of completion of collection. Under Section 54-36(q), the city can issue a notice of violation, and a citation can follow if the violation is not corrected in the time specified. Section 54-36(p) provides for tagging a container with the nature of the violation.
