Sec. 54-38(b)-(c) covers brush and limbs separately: the sanitation department chips brush and limbs up to ten inches in diameter and no longer than 12 feet, following automated trash routes, with residents notified in advance of their chipping week, and the material must be clear of obstructions like utility poles, boxes, guy wires, overhead lines, mailboxes, and vehicles. Sec. 54-43(a) reinforces that yard waste cannot go into residential trash containers at all, because state Solid Waste Regulation 22 bars anything beyond a very small amount of yard waste from entering the landfill-bound solid wastestream; violators are in violation of both state law and the city's rules.

Residents may instead compost under Sec. 54-43(b), or haul yard waste themselves to the city's yard waste facility at 2650 Lacy Drive under Sec. 54-43(c), which accepts bagged and unbagged grass clippings, leaves, brush, limbs, and shrubbery, free of plastic, garbage, trash, and excess soil, sorted per facility staff direction. Commercial haulers, lawn care companies, and county residents pay tipping fees set by the city council under Sec. 54-43(d)-(f).
