Newport Beach provides weekly curbside trash, recycling, and green waste collection for residential properties through its contracted hauler, CR&R. Trash carts must be placed at the curb by 6:00 AM on collection day with lids closed and handles facing the house. Carts must be retrieved and stored out of public view by the end of collection day.
Newport Beach residential trash collection is provided by CR&R Environmental Services under a city franchise agreement. Single-family homes receive weekly pickup for refuse (gray cart), recycling (blue cart), and green waste (green cart). Collection days vary by neighborhood and are assigned when service begins. Carts must be placed at the curb by 6:00 AM on the scheduled collection day. Carts should be positioned with handles facing the house, lids fully closed, and at least 3 feet from other carts, mailboxes, parked vehicles, and obstructions. Carts must not block sidewalks, driveways, or fire hydrants. After collection, carts must be retrieved and stored behind the front setback line so they are not visible from the street, as required by Newport Beach Municipal Code Chapter 6.04. Overflowing carts with open lids may not be collected. Extra refuse can be placed in bags beside the gray cart on collection day. Residents can request additional carts, cart size changes, or report missed pickups by contacting CR&R at (949) 625-7270 or the city's Public Works Department. Holiday collection schedules are posted on the city website with pickups typically delayed by one day following major holidays.
Carts stored in view of the street between collection days violate NBMC Chapter 6.04 and may result in a courtesy notice followed by administrative citations. First-time violations typically receive a warning. Repeated violations can result in fines starting at $100. Placing hazardous materials in regular trash carts may result in the cart being left uncollected and potential fines.
