Republic Services is the exclusive franchised waste hauler for Oakley, providing weekly curbside collection of garbage, recycling, and organics (green waste/food scraps) to all residential customers. Service day is assigned by address, with holiday schedule adjustments posted annually.
The City of Oakley has an exclusive franchise agreement with Republic Services (formerly Allied Waste) for residential solid waste, recycling, and organics collection throughout the city. All single-family residential properties receive weekly curbside service with three carts: a gray/black garbage cart, a blue recycling cart, and a green organics cart (yard waste + food scraps). Collection day is assigned by address zone (Monday through Friday) and customers can look up their specific day on the Republic Services Oakley portal. Carts must be placed at the curb by 6:00 AM on collection day with handles facing the house, wheels facing the street, and at least 3 feet of clearance between carts and from obstacles (parked cars, mailboxes, low branches). Carts must be removed from the curb by the end of collection day. When holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day) fall on or before a regular collection day, service is delayed by one day for the remainder of that week. Multi-family complexes use shared bins on schedules arranged directly with Republic Services. Commercial customers have separate service agreements. Rates are set by the Oakley City Council and published in the city's rate schedule.
