Cheektowaga, NY Trash & Recycling: Recycling Rules (2026)

Code § 206-4A requires each person who places any item at the curb for collection to separate nonrecyclable refuse and rubbish from recyclable rubbish and prepare it as the chapter specifies. Recyclable rubbish is defined in § 206-3 as rinsed food containers such as metal cans, glass and plastic food containers, plus newspaper, magazines, cardboard and flat paper, and plastic materials and bottles with metal rings and tops removed. Under § 206-4C, recyclables go in a recyclable container or are bundled, cannot exceed 150 pounds when filled, and glass, metal and plastic recyclables must have contents removed and be drained and rinsed before collection. Recyclable containers stay assigned to the property and cannot be removed from the location, per the definition in § 206-3. Supervision of recyclable collection sits with the Sanitation Department and the Town's Recycling Contractor under § 206-9C, who set the days, hours and additional rules for recycling pickup.
