Margate, FL Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 19-8(c) of the Margate Code governs yard waste from single-family dwelling units. Piles go curbside where the contractor's yard waste vehicles can reach them, by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day but not earlier than three days before it. Collection happens once per week. Section 19-1(41) defines yard waste as vegetative matter from landscaping maintenance no larger than 8 inches in diameter and no longer than 6 feet at its longest point, including shrub and tree trimmings, grass clippings, palm fronds and tree branches, and it must be generated by the dwelling unit where it is collected. Large pieces do not need bundling, but small items such as clippings go in a garbage can or clear plastic bag.

Residential dwelling units can place bulky waste in the same pile, but garbage, trash, construction waste, tires and unacceptable waste stay out. Multifamily dwelling units on mechanical container service follow Section 19-8(b) instead, which keeps yard waste out of the bulky waste stream.

Yard waste service is part of the mandatory package. Section 19-5 requires residential dwelling units to subscribe to yard waste collection with the contractor, and Section 19-11(a) lists regularly scheduled pickup of yard trash within compulsory service. Section 19-14(g) separately bars placing grass clippings, leaves or other small rubbish in the public streets or alleys, on sidewalks or parkways, on the edge of lots adjacent to sidewalks or in vacant lots when they could go in containers that meet the city manager's approval. Contractors and builders handle their own debris because Section 19-9 says the city does not collect building material, dirt or rock from private property.
