Margate, FL Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Section 19-8(a) of the Margate Code covers bulky waste from single-family dwelling units. Items that cannot be placed properly in a garbage cart because of size or weight go curbside where the contractor's bulky waste vehicles can reach them, by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day and not earlier than three days before. Collection is once per week, and the contractor can offer supplemental collection at an additional cost arranged directly with the contractor. Yard waste can share the pile, but garbage, trash, construction waste, tires and unacceptable waste cannot.

Section 19-1(2) defines bulky waste as non-vegetative, unprocessed items that have not been containerized, bagged or bundled, including furniture, white goods, refrigerators, ranges, pool heaters, water softeners, pianos, washers, dryers, water heaters, bicycles, electronics, mattresses, large boxes, barrels, crates, wire and cable, and materials resulting from home improvements. The definition excludes unacceptable waste and contractor-generated waste, and the unacceptable waste list in Section 19-1(40) includes appliances containing chlorofluorocarbons, hazardous waste and lead acid batteries.

Multifamily dwelling units receiving mechanical container service follow Section 19-8(b): the property manager and the contractor agree on a location, pickup is once per week, nothing goes out earlier than three days before collection, and holiday trees must be free from lights, wiring and ornaments. Section 19-9 states that the city is not responsible for collecting or hauling discarded building material, dirt, rock, plaster, iron or other like material from private property, so the owner removes it, and Section 19-14(d) bars placing discarded building material, dirt, rock, glass or scrap iron in a public street or alley for collection. Bulky waste service is part of the compulsory package under Sections 19-5 and 19-11(a).
