Port Orange, FL Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 56-27(d) of the Port Orange City Code sets basic yard waste service at once-a-week pickup of material that is bagged in garden-size plastic bags, boxed, or bundled. Individual pieces of yard waste cannot exceed four feet in length or 18 inches in diameter, and bundles of branches must be securely tied with string, rope, cord or twine to facilitate handling. A bundle itself is capped at four feet in length, four feet in width and four feet in height, and cannot weigh more than 50 pounds.

Piles or accumulations that are not properly bagged, boxed or bundled are still picked up by city crews or a franchisee's employees, but Section 56-27(d) allows the city to impose a special handling charge, set by council resolution, for that extra effort. Section 56-33(a) adds a separation rule: absorbent yard waste such as grass clippings and leaves must go in the required yard waste container unless it contains no combustible matter and will decay without offensive odor, in which case the owner may accumulate it if kept neat and orderly, but all yard waste must be separated from garbage before pickup.

Vacant residential lots get a volume cap under Section 56-33(b): the city or franchisee collects up to five cubic yards of yard waste from a vacant lot, with anything beyond that the property owner's responsibility, and vacant commercial lots get no city collection at all. Builders, contractors and tree services working on a property must remove all yard waste and debris they generate at their own expense under Section 56-36, rather than relying on residential curbside pickup.
