Mangroves are additionally regulated under Florida Statute 403.9325 as protected species; trimming requires either a Professional Mangrove Trimmer or homeowner exemption with strict size limits. Specimen trees include defined native species over 18 inches diameter at breast height. Removals usually require replacement plantings or contributions to the Tree Trust Fund.
