Ashwaubenon, WI Animal Ordinances: Breed Restrictions (2026)

Section 4-1-2 of the Ashwaubenon Municipal Code covers every animal in the Village of Ashwaubenon, Brown County, Wisconsin, not one breed. An animal becomes dangerous if it kills a person or pet off the owner's property, inflicts substantial bodily harm requiring stitches, a fracture, a concussion or lost consciousness, chases or menaces someone without provocation, has already been declared dangerous or banished by another city, village, town or county, or is a dog trained or kept for dog fighting. A public safety officer or the humane officer personally delivers a written dangerous-animal order to the owner, who then has 48 hours to remove the animal from the Village.

An owner who disputes the finding must file a written objection within 72 hours, triggering a hearing before the Public Works and Protection Committee. While that appeal is pending, the animal must stay confined at home or with a licensed veterinarian; if kept at home it may only leave its kennel on a leash no longer than four feet, muzzled, held by someone at least 16 years old, and the property must post two-inch warning signs at every entrance and on the kennel itself. Section 4-1-2(D) also folds in Wis.

Stat. 02, which lets the animal be destroyed if it causes bodily harm off the owner's premises on two separate occasions without reasonable cause. Anyone who keeps, harbors or returns a declared-dangerous animal to the Village, or otherwise violates the section, faces a forfeiture of $200 to $1,000 under Section 4-1-2(E).
