Possession requires registration with the local animal control authority. Irving's Animal Services division reviews exotic pet matters. Animals that escape or create a public safety hazard may be seized. Some exotic species require federal permits (USFWS) in addition to state and local compliance. Texas Parks and Wildlife issues permits for certain non-game wildlife species. Exotic pets must not create a nuisance or endanger public safety.
