Conway, AR Animal Ordinances: Microchipping (2026)

Conway has no blanket microchip mandate covering every pet in the city; the requirement is tied to two specific triggers. First, Section 6.04.06.G requires the Animal Welfare Unit to microchip every dog and cat before it leaves the shelter through adoption, and the city absorbs the cost so the adopter pays nothing extra. Second, once the Animal Welfare Unit or Director declares a dog dangerous under Section 6.04.19, Subsection D.1 gives the owner fourteen days from the designation to have the dog microchipped with a chip carrying the owner or keeper's name and contact information.

A dangerous dog that has already been impounded cannot be reclaimed until it has been chipped by a veterinarian of the owner's choosing located within Conway's corporate limits, per Section 6.04.19.M.3. Because the chip requirement is one of the enumerated compliance duties in Section 6.04.19.D, ignoring it is treated the same as ignoring the leash, muzzle, kennel, or insurance requirements that apply to a dangerous dog, and the Animal Welfare Unit does not need a court order to act on it.
