Oldham County, KY Building Safety: Building Permits (2026)

Section 150.001 adopts the State Building Code, promulgated in 815 KAR 7:120, and the State Residential Code, promulgated in 815 KAR 7:125, and directs the County Fiscal Court to enforce them "as if set out at length herein." A reference copy of both codes is kept on file at the Planning and Development Services office, where the Chief Building Inspector must maintain a copy for reference. Rather than listing dollar figures in the ordinance itself, § 150.005 requires that permit and inspection fees be set "consistent with regional permit fees," cover the actual cost of inspections, and be posted at the Planning and Development Services office, so applicants confirm current fees there rather than in the code text.

Administration of the whole building-code subchapter, per § 150.004, sits with Planning and Development Services subject to the Fiscal Court's advice. The ordinance has been amended four times since its original 1991 passage, most recently in 2019, reflecting periodic updates to which state code edition the county enforces. Anyone who constructs a building subject to inspection under §§ 150.001 through 150.005 without following those terms faces the penalty fixed in § 150.999(B).
