Oldham County, KY Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 150.001 puts the State Building Code (815 KAR 7:120) and State Residential Code (815 KAR 7:125) in force countywide, enforced by the Fiscal Court "as if set out at length herein," with a reference copy kept at Planning and Development Services. Section 150.002 names that office's Building Inspection Division as the local enforcement agency and splits inspector qualifications: general Building Code inspections must be done by a person certified by the State Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, and electrical inspections specifically must be done by a person the same state department certifies as an electrical inspector, so a county can't simply assign a general inspector to sign off on wiring.

Fees for the permits and inspections this chapter covers, including electrical work folded into a building permit, are set under § 150.005 to be consistent with regional permit fees and to cover the cost of inspections, and the fee schedule is posted at the Planning and Development Services office rather than printed in the code itself. Anyone who builds or alters a structure subject to §§ 150.001 through 150.005, including its electrical systems, without complying is exposed to the penalty in § 150.999(B): a fine of not less than $10 nor more than $1,000, with each day of a continuing violation treated as a separate offense, on top of any other remedy available to the county.
