Beaumont, CA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 15.12.010 of the Beaumont Municipal Code adopts the California Electrical Code, Title 24, Part 3, as the City Electrical Code in the City of Beaumont, California. The adoption picks up later state amendments automatically. Section 15.12.020 then amends the 2025 edition, and every local amendment points back to the building code chapter rather than writing separate electrical rules.

Payment of fees follows item 109.1 of § 15.04.020, so plan check fees and deposits, permit fees, re-inspection fees, special inspection fees and investigation fees are collected before a permit issues, in amounts set by City Council action. The schedule of permit fees follows item 109.2 and the city fee schedule. Plan review and the time limit on an application follow item 105.3.2, under which an application with no permit issued within 12 months expires and extensions run up to 180 days each. Permit expiration follows items 105.5 and 105.5.1: a permit is invalid if work does not start within 12 months or is suspended for 365 days, and work started without a permit must pass its first inspection within 30 calendar days of issuance.

Work commencing before permit issuance follows item 109.4, so a special investigation is made first and its cost equals the permit fee. Related fees follow item 109.5, including re-inspection fees when corrections are not made. Refunds follow item 109.6, which lets the building official refund up to 80 percent of a permit fee when no work has been done, on written application within 180 days of payment.

Section 15.12.030 B adds a connection rule. No person, firm or corporation can connect a source of electrical energy to an installation that requires a permit until the building inspector has issued a certificate of approval showing the wiring devices, appliances or equipment conform to the code.
