Queen Creek, AZ Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 7-1-1-4-4 makes the 2020 National Electrical Code the governing standard for every electrical installation, alteration, repair or replacement in Queen Creek, including equipment, appliances, fixtures and fittings. Section 7-1-4-1 folds electrical work into the town's general permit requirement: any owner or authorized agent who intends to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace an electrical system regulated by the Town Building Code must first apply to the Building Official and obtain a permit before starting. Contractors doing repeated electrical alterations do not need a separate permit for each job; Section 7-1-4-1-1 lets the Building Official issue an annual permit to a firm that regularly employs qualified tradespeople, with fees set by the current Permit Fee Schedule, and the Building Official can suspend or revoke that annual permit for noncompliance.

Section 7-1-4-2-3 exempts a defined list of minor electrical work from the permit requirement, including portable cord-and-plug appliances, minor lamp and receptacle repairs, temporary decorative lighting, low-energy Class II and Class III control circuits, circuits carrying less than 27 volts and no more than 50 watts, and temporary generators for special events. Everything outside that exemption list, new circuits, service upgrades, panel replacements and similar work, requires a permit and the inspections that go with it before the work can be used or occupied.
