Gardena, CA Building Safety: Green Building Code (2026)

Gardena Municipal Code § 15.24.010 adopts the 2022 California Green Building Standards Code, referred to in the code as CALGreen, Part 11 of Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations, by reference and makes it part of Chapter 15.24 as though set forth in full. Unlike the city's building, residential, electrical and plumbing code chapters, which each amend specific state sections on fees, permit exemptions or local infrastructure, Chapter 15.24 contains no additional local amendment sections beyond the adoption itself; the ordinance history note attached to the section, Ordinance No.

1851 § 10, 2023, shows the city readopted the current edition alongside the rest of its Title 15 building-code package that year rather than layering city-specific CALGreen provisions on top of it. Because the adoption is unqualified, every mandatory CALGreen measure for the 2022 edition, including construction waste management, water-efficient plumbing fixtures, and building commissioning for larger structures, applies to permitted projects in Gardena exactly as the state code prints it, and compliance is checked by the same Building Division that reviews the rest of a project's Title 15 permit package under the fee and appeal procedures set out earlier in that title.

A project's CALGreen checklist is reviewed alongside its building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing plan sets under the single plan-review fee described at § 15.06.040, so a separate CALGreen-specific fee is not charged.
