West Jordan, UT Building Safety: Green Building Code (2026)

West Jordan does not have a stand-alone green building or sustainability code; its energy-efficiency requirement for construction runs through section 10-1-8, which adopts the entire 2015 edition of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and fully incorporates it into city code as though set out at length. The IECC, as adopted, is controlling within the corporate limits of the city for insulation, fenestration, HVAC efficiency, and other energy-related building elements addressed by the code. , so West Jordan tracks the state-mandated energy code without needing a new city ordinance for each update.

A certified copy of the adopted IECC is kept on file for public inspection at the City Recorder's Office, per Utah Code Annotated section 10-3-711, and the words and phrases used in the IECC are construed consistently with the rest of title 10. Energy code compliance is checked as part of the same building permit review and inspection process that covers the International Building Code: the Building and Safety Division verifies IECC compliance during plan review and field inspection under section 10-2-1, and enforcement, appeals, and penalties for an IECC violation follow the same chapter 2 and chapter 3 procedures that apply to the rest of the adopted construction codes.
