West Jordan, UT Building Safety: Building Permits (2026)

Section 10-1-2 of the West Jordan City Code adopts the entire 2015 edition of the International Building Code, including its amendments, as the controlling standard for the design, construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of buildings and structures within city limits. The city also adopts IBC Appendix B (Board of Appeals), Appendix J (grading), and Appendix K (administrative provisions). Wherever the IBC uses the word "jurisdiction," the code defines it to mean the City of West Jordan. A certified copy of the adopted IBC is kept on file for public inspection in the City Recorder's Office, with an additional copy at the Development Department Secretary's desk, as required by Utah Code Annotated section 10-3-711.

Under section 10-2-1, the Building and Safety Division inspects buildings and structures during construction, modification, or repair, and its enforcement officials may enter property to check compliance with the codes adopted under chapter 1, taking photographs or samples as evidence. If a property owner refuses to allow an inspection, the Division may obtain a search warrant and may suspend or delay action on the building permit until the inspection occurs. is deemed adopted by the city without a further city ordinance. Disputes over a building official's interpretation of the adopted codes go to the five-member Board of Building Appeals under section 10-3-1, with further appeal to the District Court under section 10-3-9.
