The Anchorage Building Official inspects permitted work at each successive stage, and the code's sequencing rule has teeth at both ends of a project. 3, work shall not proceed beyond the point indicated in each successive inspection without first obtaining the Building Official's approval, and any portion found out of compliance must be corrected and left uncovered until the Building Official authorizes closing it up. In practice that means framing, wiring, or plumbing cannot be buried behind drywall or backfill on the contractor's own schedule; the stage has to pass first, and the work must stay exposed and accessible until the inspector signs off.

2: the contractor asks for an inspection through Building Safety's online services, by phone, or in writing, at least one working day before the inspection is needed. The end of the job has its own gate. There must be a final inspection and approval for each relevant discipline associated with the permitted building or structure, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing among them, before it is declared completed and ready for occupancy and use. Passing the last trade's rough-in is not enough; each discipline closes out separately.
