Jackson, NJ Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Jackson Township Code § 162-1 adopts the New Jersey State Uniform Construction Code, as promulgated by the Department of Community Affairs, for all construction in the township and names the Division of Inspections as the municipal enforcing agency, covering the plumbing subcode along with the building and electrical subcodes. Section 162-4B sets the plumbing subcode fee schedule: $20 for each fixture, piece of equipment or appliance connected to the plumbing system, and $20 for each appliance connected to gas or oil piping, subject to a $100 minimum residential fee and $140 minimum commercial fee, plus separate charges such as $2 per linear foot for a private water main or private sewer main and a minimum $70 fee for testing a backflow preventer.

All plumbing subcode fees are rounded under standard mathematical practice, so a $105.43 charge becomes $105. Because the plumbing subcode is one part of the single Uniform Construction Code permit, § 162-3 combines the plumbing fee with the building, electrical and any other applicable subcode fees into one construction permit fee paid before the Construction Official issues the permit. A New Jersey-licensed plumbing subcode official within the Division of Inspections reviews the technical plumbing work and has exclusive decision-making authority over the plumbing subcode's technical provisions.

Homeowners replacing a water heater, adding fixtures or running new water or sewer service should apply to the Division of Inspections and pay the applicable per-fixture fee before work begins.
