Broomfield, CO Business Licensing & Operations: Adult Entertainment (2026)

Broomfield Municipal Code § 5-36-030 makes it unlawful to operate a sexually oriented business, defined in § 5-36-020(O) to include adult arcades, bookstores, cabarets, motels, motion picture theaters, theaters and sexual encounter establishments, without a license in full force and effect and all fees and taxes paid. Applications go to city council with a scaled floor diagram and a vicinity map showing every existing or approved sexually oriented business, church, school, park, day care or residentially zoned property within 1,500 feet (§ 5-36-040). Council must deny a license if the property is not zoned B-1, B-2, I-1 or I-2, if the § 5-36-120 setback isn't met, or if the operator or manager was convicted of a specified criminal act within two years (misdemeanor) or five years (felony) of the application (§ 5-36-050).

The setback itself, § 5-36-120(A), bars operation within 1,500 feet of any church, school, residential boundary, child day care facility, park or open space adjacent to a residential district, preschool, or another sexually oriented business, measured in a straight line regardless of intervening structures. Hours are also capped: § 5-36-140 bars being open Tuesday through Saturday from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., Sunday from 2:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and every Monday from midnight to 7:00 a.m. A license expires one year after issuance (§ 5-36-090), and the new-license and renewal fee is $950.00 with a $75.00 manager-registration fee (§ 5-36-230).
