Tamarac, FL Business Licensing & Operations: Adult Entertainment (2026)

Section 10-3.3(D)(1) of Tamarac's Land Development Code imposes a strict 1,000-foot buffer around adult entertainment uses. No adult entertainment business may locate within 1,000 feet of any other adult entertainment business, a church or other place of religious worship, a school, a residentially zoned district, or a publicly owned or operated park, playground, library or other recreational facility, whether that protected use sits inside or outside Tamarac's own boundaries. The code specifies exactly how that distance is measured: from the entrance of the adult entertainment business to the nearest point of entrance of the church or school, the nearest point of the residential district line, or the nearest point of the park, playground or library.

On the use table, adult entertainment is allowed only by Special Exception, and only in a single zoning district, so a city commission hearing is required before any location can open even where the spacing rule is met. Once sited, section 10-3.3(D)(1)(b) regulates the storefront itself: every building opening, entry, window, door or other aperture must be located, covered or screened so no view into the interior is possible from any public area, though the covering cannot be painted out, blacked out or otherwise obscured in a garish manner.

The city commission may waive or modify the distance or premises restrictions only after a formal application and public hearing, on specific findings set out in section 10-3.3(D)(1)(c).
