Hurricane Shutters

In unincorporated Nassau County, Section 105.15 of the adopted Florida Building Code requires impact-resistant opening protection, shutters, impact windows or doors meeting the Florida Building Code, Residential, whenever a building permit applied for on or after July 1, 2008 covers at least $50,000 of work on a site-built single-family detached home in the wind-borne debris region with an insured or just value of $750,000 or more.

Flood Elevation

Nassau County's Florida Building Code, Residential amendments in Section R322.2.1 require the lowest floor of a home in a flood hazard area to sit at or above the base flood elevation plus 1 foot, or the design flood elevation, whichever is higher. Where no design flood elevation is set, Section 1612.3.1 lets the building official default to 3 feet above the highest adjacent grade.
